Ethic and ethics

Hi, thanks a lot as always.

Though I've looked at the dictionary for a while

I cannot get the difference between ethic and ethics.

Especially in an example below, does it have to be ethic instead of ethics?

The ethic of the future, which demands that we pass a habitable world on to our children, will supply the link among economy, ecology, growth and sustainable development.

The two words are the same. Ethic , the less common, perhaps, is used for the ethics of a specific culture or person. I suggest ethics for your sentence, since it refers to those of the general public.
