Establish credentials ... couple of hundred percent

Hello

I was looking to establish some credentials in the field of website design, came across the X website, and knew I could improve it a couple of hundred percent.

--- Does it mean he was getting education how to design websites ... and knew that the website he came across he could make 200% better?

Hi,

The term 'credentials' is often used more broadly than simply meaning 'qualifications'.

If I improve lots of websites very, very much, and people get to know this, you could say that I am establishing my credentials.

The root of the word 'credential' is the idea of 'belief'. Credentials make people believe in my skill.

What about "competence" instead of "qualifications"?

Does "establish" mean "gain" in this case?

What if I said that he was trying to "gain competence" in that field? He wanted to have a reputation that he was a competent web designer. What do you think about that? Is it close to "establishing credentials"?

Hi,

What about "competence" instead of "qualifications"?

"Competence' just means that you can do things adequately. It doesn't mean you do them really well.

And it doesn't mean that anyone knows you can do things adequately.

On the other hand, 'credentials' usually involves other people believing that you can do things well.
