The problem between Republic Macedonia and Greece follow to the disagreement over the use of the name Macedonia. Greece does not agree about the use of the name Macedonia because it has a region with that name. Greece also objects to the undisambiguated use of the term Macedonian for the neighbouring country's main ethnic group and language. The reference the former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia (FYROM) is currently always used in relations involving states which do not recognise the constitutional name, Republic of Macedonia. Nevertheless, all UN member-states, and the UN as a whole, have agreed to accept any final agreement resulting from negotiations between the two countries.
To fulfill its own illegitimate aims, in the early 1990's, Greece blockaded the
Republic of Macedonia's border for nearly two years..The blockade cost the Republic of Macedonia a fortune in losses and brought economic hardship and suffering to the Macedonian people.Greece blockaded all Macedonian products going through the port of Salonica. Then in 1995 when the Interim agreement between Macedonia and Greece was signed and the illegal blockade was lifted, the European court dismissed the case pretending that the blockade never happened. Greece was worried that with an independent Republic of Macedonia it would mean affirmation of the Macedonian people, which, sooner or later, would lead to the inescapable opening of the Macedonian question in Greece: how they were treated, and the issue associated about Macedonian ethnic minority in Greece.

At the end, Macedonia and Greece signed an agreement in New York in 1995, which was removed from the Vergina sun flag of Macedonia, while Greece agreed not to object to any application of Macedonia are used as reference FYROM. The issue if and when Macedonia will join EU and NATO is still a subject of discussion.The most it depends on when the name dispute will re resolved,but in the near future it still would be a problem.Entrance on Macedonia in this internacional organization is a priority for the country and with that it expect to improve the economic position and better standart,which is a dream of every Macedonian citizen.
