Nowadays celebrities are more famous for their glamour and wealth than their achievements, and this sets a bad example to young people. To what extent do you agree or disagree ?

It is assumed that modern public figures depend on their extravagant lifestyle to attract spotlight rather than on their personal merits, which is said to negatively influence the youth. Personally, I partly disagree with this view since many peope gain popularity for their true talents.

It is controversial that a number of celebrities usually show off their affluence, namely by purchasing products of luxurious fashion brands or organising expensive parties. They are additionally of the most influential groups in the society, especially with their extensive media coverage. Whatever they do can catch public attention, causing other people to wrongly believe that fame easily comes, given the extravagant lifestyle. Young generation, however, appear to have a tendency to imitate those behaviours in the hope of rising to stardom so they probably immerse themselves in reaching the goal. A consequently large expenditure of money and time would be wasted, which will lead the youth to a snobbish lifestyle.

Besides wealthy celebrities, many reowned people have make attempts to gain fame in public recognition of their professional achievements. Young people may consider them endless inspiration and encouragement for them to work for such a promising future. Unlike some celebrities who are admired for their glamour, these people also participate in social activities to raise general awareness of many issues with the assistance of their far-reaching influence . There appear to be more and more figures nowadays recognised as activists to change the society for the better. For example, Angelina Jolie, a famous Hollywood actress, has established her own charity to help poverty-stricken countries and orphans.

To conclude, notwithstanding that glamour and weath are the main factors that contributes to the popularity of some celebrities in present-day, which is not sensible, we can witness many famous individual gain support, whose career achievements are undeniable.
