HEY guys! So I have an essay that I need to write tomorrow and we were given the question in advance. The question is: Discuss the idea(s) developed by the text creator(Jane Austen) in your chosen text (Pride and Prejudice) about the ways in which individuals pursue or compromise their happiness. I was wondering what I would focus on. My current thesis is: In this novel, Jane Austen demonstrates that when one pursues their happiness through marriage, one may also compromise another's potential happiness, their chance to meet a soul mate, or their possible economic security.
If my thesis isn't strong, could you please tell me how to strengthen it?
Also, my plan is to have the first paragraph be about how Lady Catherine and Caroline Bingley are disappointed when Darcy gets married. Also, Jane and Bingley's marriage had Caroline disappointed once more (and others indubitably).
My second will be about how marrying for money like in Charlotte's case or for libido like in Lydia's case will compromise one's chance to meet a soul mate who complements them like Elizabeth and Darcy.
My third will complement my second paragraph as it will be about how marrying for personality or libido will compromise one's ability to sustain themselves economically. This will mainly be about Lydia and Wickham.
So my main questions are: Is my thesis strong? If not, how could I make it stronger? Are there any better topic areas to be discussed for the body paragraphs? Are my body paragraphs strong, and how could I improve my essay overall?
