Essay - Reading Books. Please review

Some people think reading stories in books is better than watching TV or playing computer games for children. To what extent do you agree or disagree?

Children should be encouraged to adopt meaningful activities. It is believed by some that children should prefer reading stories over wasting time in playing video games or watching TV. I completely concur with the premise because not only their confidence will be increased, but their communication skills will also be improved.

When children spend time on reading stories, they learn many new things, including a career objective, motivation and confidence. Most of them receive inspiration to achieve something in life by realizing their actual purpose of coming into this world. In other words, stories motivate them thereby aspiring them to become a successful person. On the other hand, they hardly learn anything important in playing games on computers. For example, in a recent interview with Christiano Ronaldo, a renowned footballer, he shared that he read too many motivational books in his childhood; it was one of the main reasons of achieving success in his career.

Besides, children's communication skills improve significantly by reading story books. They learn plethora of new words, sometimes difficult, which they use in their daily communication. They do not only look for a meaning of new words, but also learn to pronounce them so that they can use these words in their daily life. Can children learn a language by reading? The answer is yes as they understand stories by learning many new words, sentences, grammar and their structures. In the UK, for instance, it is reported that writing skills of students are superior who read books than those who watch TV or play games.

In conclusion, I take the view that children should not waste their time on playing computer games of watching TV. Instead, they should read stories so that they can increase their confidence along with improving their communication.
