If not, bad teaching can have long-lasting impact on the students. That is to say, the student can internalized the bad language taught by the teacher and graduate to higher levels without much success to get rid of that. Consequently, it behooves an L2 teacher to become a professional at his job. Moreover, he should also make sure that he catches up with the most recent teaching material in his career. For instance, they should utilize modern technology in tandem with effective and tried-and-tested pedagogical methods.

Secondly, a great L2 teacher should always try to motivate his students. For this purpose, he can employ several methods. The most important technique in this regard is rewarding students. As a matter of fact, if students feel that they will be rewarded for their hard work, they will try their best to study their lessons and fulfill their teacher’s instructions. Furthermore, having an interesting teaching style seems to be another method an L2 teacher can apply, because learning a language could become a rather boring task without the teacher maintaining an exciting and vibrant atmosphere in the class. A good case in point could be grammar classes where the material on their own cannot be interesting enough to draw the students’ attention and keep them attentive throughout the whole class, hence the immediate intervention of the teacher. Eventually, a good L2 teacher should be aware of the importance of giving proper feedback to language learners in order to keep them motivated. There are times that the lack of proper feedback can simply lead to a student leaving his endeavor to learn a second language whatsoever.
