You may:
1) Tell a story
2) Propose an opposite idea
3) Provide interesting facts or well-known people's opinions
From what I learned in my English class is that you have to start your motivator with cold hard facts or a strong opinion. If you start it with an opinion the reader will want to know more and continue to read on. As well as if you start with a fact or evidence then the reader will want to know why you chose to pick the evidence given.
