Essay. Hi, would anyone correct or comment it, please. Thanks
Goethe’s Advice One ought, every day at least, to hear a little song, read a good poem, see a fine picture, and, if it were possible, to speak a few reasonable words. One simply ought to enrich his spirit every day. It’s out of question that this Goethe’s remarkable thought has a certain appeal in its apparent easiness. We should educate ourselves culturally, everyone knows that. But do we truly follow a plain rule of a German genius? Contemporary society is considered not to be expressing any concern to the traditions and customs inherited from ancestors, to be rather vague and to interest merely in material enjoyment. I believe that this reveals the society’s greatest problem. People let themselves be persuaded about their own ignorance. Thus they don’t have to discuss the theatre, film and so forth. Ignorance is bliss. It prevents you from any genuine zeal in the area of art, which would eventually make you evolve excessive effort extraordinarily contrasting with any trivial talks about football or races. However one phenomenon has remained unacknowledged so far. It’s evolution. As the human develops, the same does the culture. Before we condemn modern people for their barbarian refusal of poetry, drama or classical music, we must contemplate other forms, in which the art approaches human today. Everything has transformed since the years had passed. Music can be heard in every tram or shop. We are pursued by it nearly every minute of our lives. Inevitably followed, human begins to abhor it. Although there is a mystery concealed: this is a vast of nowadays’ culture, concede it or not. We have become hostile to the culture, because it surrounds us from everywhere. Thence we have lost the interest in going to the galleries, concerts and theatre performances. We have got tired of it. On the contrary, we are lacking in supply of really highly valuable culture. And I daresay that a huge part in this process can be ascribed to advertising. Art commenced to be availed in order to earn money. In my opinion, this is one of most terrible damages that can be done to a deeply spiritual business. I’m not keen on hearing my favourite song ten times a day accompanied by the comment advising me to buy a car. Probably we ought to free from the chains of commercial concerns, start to enjoy the culture we like, regardless to the conditions influencing us and, on behalf of Goethe, raise our spirits to the supreme heights, where they cannot be jeopardised by any afflictions compelling us to do anything we don’t like nor find distinguished. Culture is what we find noble, interesting and ennobling. And that’s what we should approach.
