In the past, people were traditionally organized to cultivate peculiar eating habits in which the mother figure played the main role, cooking for the family and relatives. Generally, it was perfectly possible to know where the food came from. All the food used in the meals was produced at home, such as vegetables, fruits, chicken and sometimes cattle. In other words, normal habits were organically in touch with the environment in a perfect chemistry.
However, this familiar scenario cannot be maintained, mainly because of the large changes that have occurred. Nowadays, the way that the majority of people look at food and diet has affected their lives positively and negatively. As eating habits started to change, mealtimes were dismantled in moments, minutes and seconds. The intense search for new kinds of diets such as dairy-free , low-fat or gluten free have caused some serious problems, mainly when there is the use of chemical solutions for losing weight, resulting in serious consequences.
Finally, the increasing consumption of fast food has been the reason for many discussions among nutrionists, doctors and governments. Despite the public health care problems, what we see as a result is a growth in diseases coming such as obesity, high blood pressure, stroke and others. It is a fact that people prefer a junkie food lifestyle to home cooked meals, which is unhealthy and dangerous, especially for children that can develop unhealthy eating habits resulting in eating disorders.
To sum up, over the last fifty years, eating habits have changed and also improved with the introduction of many options which can vary from fast food to organics. It is up to the individual to decide if eating habits can be good or harmful depending on changes in lifestyles and also to rescue the cooking culture in order to preserve the main diets in the world such as Mediterranean and vegetarian.

Dear Woody, This essay was about the eating habits in our society. How did they change in the last fifty years. I was trying to improve this essay explaining that eating habits are different today. People do not eat so well, the fast food industry is taking control but there are some movements encouraging people to eat well in a healthy way. examples: Slow Food Movement, Organic Food etc
