essay correction

Hi there!

I had to write an essay for homework and I would like you to correct it please! Thanks in advance!

... here it is ...

Educating Rita

Rita’s social class

In this essay I am going to deal with the question in which social class Rita is to put.

Generally I think to assess in which social class someone belongs, we have to look at three criteria: Education, manners and income.

Rita’s education is fairly low and therefore she wants to be educated by a teacher, Frank. The play is not for nothing called “Educating Rita”. Bearing in mind that Rita decided on her own to go to Open University it is most likely that she considers herself uneducated. Additionally talking about “the educated class” she refers to them with “they”, not with “us” (p. 12 ll. 34) All along mistaking famous authors like Shakespeare or Eliot with unknown writers Rita displays her lack of education, too. Even if it’s not inevitably an evidence, yet she attented a school were knives and fights were “just normal” (p.23 ll. 22,23).

Rita’s manners already become quite clear at the very beginning of the play. She enters the room without one single word of welcome and she even asks Frank intimate questions about his marriage (p. 26 ll. 22).

Her income can only partly be estimated, because we neither know Denny’s job nor what he earns a month. But since Rita is a lady’s hairdresser she probably does not earn that much.

Comming to a conclusion it is little suprise that Rita entirely corresponds to the image of a working-class member.
