Topic: How the birth order affects behavior of a person

Behavior Affected by Middle Born Children Position
Fifty-two percent of United States’ presidents have been born as middles. The birth order has magnificent impact on behavior of a person. It defines children position in a family as well as a later position in life. The middles often contend for their place in the sun because their position doesn’t gain them any special rights within a family. The oldest child is “a leader” and can easily take advance of this situation because of all the “firsts”. The youngest child benefits from being the baby of the family. But how much a middle position does affects an adult’s life?
Firstly we need to realize, middles have actually a lot to gain. Scientific evidence suggest that these people are excellent team players, more willing to compromise. A critical skill for a successful leader. Among others, they tend to be very savvy, skillful manipulators. It’s because they spend a childhood enhancing the art of negotiation, otherwise they are overshadowed by their older/younger siblings. Middles are also very patient, that’s because they have to wait around a lot as kids.
This is of course in contrast to challenges the middles have to face because of the birth order. The majority of middle-born children suffer from “Middle Child Syndrome”. This group of people display lower self-esteem, more than any other birth orders, because of the lack of attention at home. A middle child is a second child – there is always someone ahead of him. Frequently, they feel like they don’t belong and are neglected by parents. For that reason, they are more focused on fairness than other siblings. All these and many more factors deeply contribute to human development and influence life, career and relationships. Thankfully, many disadvantages can be actually turned into advantages. Powerful missionaries and strong leaders as Martin Luther King Jr. or Abraham Lincoln, both born as middles, prove the fact.
Even though the majority of middle-born children display above-mentioned traits, to any rule there has to be an exception. Gender is one of the very important one. If a middle child is of different gender than the rest of siblings, he/she usually gets much more attention. Being a middle-born girl between two boys usually get you to the center of attention.
To conclude, the birth order and family position does psychologically affect who we become. The middle child very often struggles with stereotypes, called resentful, neglected or embittered. For that reason, we need to realize consequences of the birth order to understand the uniqueness of every child. If the oldest child is responsible and set as an example for the younger one, then the younger one is to become different from the desire to become unique. It goes without saying that this desire is the motive force of a person’s behavior during a childhood as well as an adulthood.
