Essay contest

Hi.
There is a descriptive essay contest about sustainablity. I am going to participate in it, but I don't understand the topic itself properly. I would be grateful if you could help me in this regard.
Here is the instruction that I have to follow;

"Essay Contest Sustainable Laramie 2050
As if you were writing a futuristic novel set in 2050, write a description of Laramie in 2050 assuming we are successful in bringing about a relatively sustainable world. The goal is to be optimistic, but not utopian or unrealistic. Consider both material (e.g., energy, food, transport) and social, political and economic systems. Alternatively, you may describe in greater detail, a single main element that would vastly improve Laramie’s sustainability. The essay should be no more than 1000 words. The essay should be specific to Laramie, emphasizing aspects of Laramie that are different than today, but not excluding important values that are sustained."

As it can be seen, it is asked to talk about sustainablity of Laramie in 2050. But I don't understand what is exactly meant by sustainibility. What does it have to do with political and economical systems? To me sustainablity is the ability of preserving natural sources without causing any damage to the environment.

I would be deeply grateful, if you could just provide me several sentences as a sample, so I get the general idea of what I should describe. I need some ideas to begin. I require several basic sentences as a brain storming.
Thank you very much for your time

hrsanei To me sustainablity is the ability of preserving natural sources without causing any damage to the environment. Yes, but I would add - in such a way that resources are constantly renewed. So, for example, you would need a system that allows for the continual planting of new forests to replace those that are harvested to make wood products.

  • Similar reasoning applies to other resources, such as water.
  • Are there enough reservoirs to capture enough water for a growing population?
