I've been writing a essay entitled "Individualism and egoism". And I wonder how my essay appears to others. Please check my essay.

"Individualism and egoism"
Last year, I heard a famous oriental philosopher who gives a lecture on TV stating about the West ignore
other person's right as well as don't acknowledge other person because individualism widely spread in there.

However, It can be soon found that this judgement is wrong by examining the definition of individualism.
Misunderstanding like this sample usually happens from mistaking individualism as egoism. There is a lot of
instances which don't shows the difference between two even with complex explanations and
various examples, but it can be understood very quickly if you see the definition of words.

Individualism is the position that highly regard each individual, whereas egoism considers ego as the most
important. Since individuals are many, the former means behaving with thinking each individuals. On the other
hand, the latter means only thinking oneself and behaving without considering other person.

Individualism considers everyone as important as literally. It respect I, You, He, She as well as individual I.
That is, Individualism based upon all individuals value and dignity and attitude of embracing difference is
essence of individualism. On the other hand, egoism is not prepared to understand or embrace others as it can
be easily known by origin of the word, for it only highly consider oneself. Briefly, the existence of myself is only for me in egoism.

To sum up, individualism is caring for every each individuals, and egoism is caring for only oneselves. Now conclusion is clear now.
If individualism is developed, the condition which can harmonize with community due to improvement of ability
to embracing other people.

That's it.
Any better idea for this?

Sorry, but I cannot recognize either egoism or individualism from your discussion, whether 'egoism' as a psychological theory, or ethical egoism; and whether 'individualism' as a moral stance, a political philosophy, or social theory. Your outline of 'individualism' seems more to do with Liberalism. Where did you get your source material from?

  • I, and others in the forum, can help with the grammar, but probably not with the ideas being expressed.
