I do not agree with this statement, because I think that science and mathematics are more important . Mainly because mathematics develops essential skills of logical thinking, also, achievements in science influence our life a lot and literature and history do not have that big contribution in our progress.

Math develops some crucial abilities such as logic, calculating. If you know how match works you wouldn't have any problem in dividing any big problem into little ones and then solve the little ones, and so you can solve the big problem. Moreover, math helps in decision making as you can easily weigh all the advantages and disadvantages of your next move. Thereby, such an abstract science has got a lot of real life applications.

The other point is our progress. Science is the force that driving our advance up in technology, medicine, economics and so forth. That is why humanity is progressing, growing. Science is crucial for our society, so with more students studying science we could have more geniuses, thereby, we could have more breakthroughs. The advantages of science are just overwhelming; it is much easier today to get a right treatment in a hospital, some surgery operation became harmless with laser technology for example. It means fewer people are suffering these days.

Finally, the contribution of history and literature to our developments is not that big. I do not think that we are likely lacking any professors in these spheres. What do these subjects give to society? Of course, they give some kind of knowledge, but, in my opinion, this knowledge is somewhat relaxing. You can read a book in a quiet place; you can of course just enjoy it; you do not have to do any experiments, discovers, inventions. Mainly because there is nothing to discover there. These subjects are stagnated.

Although we cannot live without history and literature, but we also don't need any new brains there. Our world have made a huge leap in technologies because of science and math, and there is still much more to discover; that is why I think, that studying math and science is more important for students.
