Essay about the cons and pros of video games

Some people regard video games as harmless fun, or even as a useful educational tool. Others, however, believe that video games are having an adverse effect on the people who play them. In your opinion, do the drawbacks of video games outweigh the benefits?

These days, people have different views about the influence of video games. While I accept that there are some positive effects on users, I am still in a belief that video games have more disadvantages the advantages.

On the one hand, there are several reasons why people might argue that video games play an important role in the life. Firstly, video games are fun and entertaining. It is easy to become incredibly involved in the experience of playing. They also allow players or players’s parents to choose suitable games for their age and personal preferences. There is nothing wrong with occasionally enjoying a game. Secondly, video games will promote the development of brain function such as hand-eye coordination or faster reaction, especially problems-solving skills. And, that is the same in real-life pastimes. In an office, compared to those who do not play games, players will tackle the problems faster and they may get a promotion. That means they gain benefit from the experiences in games.

On the other hand, I would agree that video games have bad influences. One problem is that some games have shown violent and sadistic scenes affecting the gamers’s minds. The gamers are taught that violence is the only way to solve conflicts. This may happen in real life. Further more, game addiction also exerts negative impacts on academic or work performances. For instance, many workers spending too much time on games are losing the focus on their work or many students may get bad marks, as a result of game addiction.Finally, video games has bad effect on health. Many researches has shown the prolonged insomnia is terribly bad for health. This is are completely right with players, as they often play games through nights in lieu of going to bed.

In conclusion, there are both cons and pros of digital games but I still strongly believe that the drawbacks outweigh the benefits.
