Essay about social responsibilities - IELTS task 2

As well as making money, business also have social responsibilities. Do you agree or disagree?

It is argued that companies should contribute to society along with making a profit. Personally, I agree with this point of view.

On the one hand, there is undeniable that money plays a central role in a business. Firstly, companies should be profitable in order to stay in business and cover basic needs such as employee wages and electricity. Secondly, it is also important that money should be spent on reproduction and invention to keep up with the public's demand and stay competitive with other opponents. For instance, a new product needed a lot of investment in research and testing before going to the market. Finally, companies should be in a good position and financially stable to fully take on social responsibilities.

On the other hand, I would argue that businesses should put social work as part of their goals. It is absurd to think that companies should only focus on making money and ignore other benefits of society. Besides that, there are various ways that companies could benefit themselves while giving back to communities. For example, voluntary programs such as supporting local education not only helping poor children go back to school but also increasing the number of well- educated workers in the future. Furthermore, companies can also start to contribute to society by treating their employee well and ensuring their rights in the workplace as the fundamental of social responsibilities is to support other people.

In conclusion, while money is necessary for companies to function properly, I believe that companies should pay back to society.
