It is argued that learning local history is more necessary for students than history in the whole world. I completely disagree with this opinion and will discuss the reason why in this essay.
Firstly, it is an undeniable the fact that local history plays a crucial role in forming historical knowledge of students’ country. To be in particular, by studying historical knowledge, schoolchildren are able to know how their country was established, how many national heroes fight to free the country. This will make them feel a sense of proudness as well as nurturing a love for their country. For example, if Vietnamese people do not learn Vietnam’s history, they will never know about Uncle Ho who went to find a way to save their country and bring independence to the whole nation. That is why history is a compulsory subject in school and every child has to learn since they were in primary.
Moreover, it is believed that learning global history is truly important as well. To be more specific, many people would have a curiosity about the outstanding development of other countries in the world and this is the reason why students have to learn about these countries’ history as it will make them have a deeper insight into the process of globalization. Furthermore, world history also increases the chances of boosting employment prospects in the future. Take Japan as an example, owing to the appreciation of Japanese companies for their country’s culture, it is advantageous for employees who acquire a wide knowledge about Japanese history. Thus, students can not be ignorant of the history of the world.
In conclusion, both local history and global history would bring benefits for students, especially in the long-term period. Therefore, schoolchildren should be taught widely in the school curriculum.
