Essay

Given is a table providing information about several major metro systems in some parts of the world.
The table compares some metro systems in various cities on three aspects: year completed, total length and carrying capacity. It is obvious from the information provided that the total length of metro systems tended to decrease over the years.
London had the oldest railways system which was completed in 1863 with 1100km long. This is also the largest metro network in comparison with the others. The second-largest system belongs to Paris, it is only about half the size of the London underground with 593 kilometers of length. While Tokyo's railway system is much shorter than it is in London, it has the highest carrying capacity with 1434 million people per year.
The other three countries completed their metro networks in 1921, 1980 and 2001 respectively. Washington DC's subway is the most extensive system in comparison with the other two cities with 114 kilometers long. The length of Kyoto and Los Angeles is quite low with 11 and 14 kilometers of length respectively. The carrying capacity of the Kyoto railways system is at the lowest level. It only has 11 million people per year.
