Essay

Hi

Please give your comments this essay.

Some people think books are losing importance as a source of information and entertainment. To what extent you agree or disagree?

In my opinion books are not losing their importance as a source of information and entertainment.

First, books are preferred by those who aim to acquire in-depth knowledge in the subject. This is not easily possible with the electronic gadgets that require internet because the person needs to spend more time to checking the websites that are deemed to contain the required information. Another demerit associated with this method is the information in some of the websites could be wrong or misleading. Whereas, when it comes to books, we buy them after we make a careful study about the author and information they contain.

Second, though there are a lot of online sources that contain information on almost all the subjects, books continue to attract the attention of the readers because they are compact; one does not need to carry electronic gadgets—some of which are heavier than the books. Further, these electronic gadgets require electric current and Internet connectivity, which is not available in remote regions.

Third, books are undoubtedly safer than electronic gadgets. Researches conducted in many parts of the world report that prolonged exposure to electronic gadgets has a profound adverse effect on the eyes and certain important bodily functions. Today, doctors and researchers are strongly advising people to avoid using mobile devices and other electronic gadgets for a long time. This in turn is making those who moved away from books to return to them.

In conclusion, though it may seem the popularity of electronic gadgets as sources of information and entertainment is increasing in this Internet Age, a large number of people still prefer books for information and entertainment because of their simple and safe form, compactness, and affordability.
