Impact of the cinema on common people

Cinema has been very a powerful means of communication with common people. Basically cinema includes all forms of motion pictures. People have learnt about history of many countries through the cinema. Cinema has brought to light countless number of events which might have otherwise remained unknown to common masses. The field of cinema has undergone drastic changes since its inception.

Cinema has been a major vehicle of social change. India is a country where people have been divided in terms of caste religion cultural and many other factors. This has severely affected the growth and development of the nation. Common people mainly in rural areas have been deeply rooted in superstitions resulting in unreasonable and inhuman practices such as child marriage, human sacrifice, female foeticide, infanticide and so on. In the backdrop of these practices cinema has played an indispensable role in educating the people against superstitious beliefs.

Cinema has brought significant changes in the mindset of the learned people as well. Films like Taare Zameen Par, 3 Idiots, Life is Beautiful have made parents, teachers, doctors, school administrators policy makers rethink on what they should do as their duty towards the younger generation. This, in turn benefits the common people in the way of their children getting quality education. In addition, today movies are made on how some people who occupy coveted positions abuse their positions in order to satisfy their greed for wealth and possessions. But for these movies which expose wrong doings of some people in high positions, common people would remain ignorant to them would unknowingly continue to lend themselves to be abused by the corrupted elite class.

Cinema has caused serious changes in the political affiliations of the common people. Some people try to swindle public wealth once they become elected representatives of people. The resources allotted for public welfare are illegally used by such leaders. Cinema has been playing a salutary role in exposing the scams and scandals that some tainted leaders are involved and this has made the common people resolve to route such leaders out of power.

Thus, we can say that cinema has had a great impact on common people. Common people hope that it would bring forth many more path breaking positive changes in the society.

In the US, we use:
working class / lower class (Poor people who are on welfare or have very low-paying jobs.)
middle class (People who are not rich but they have a good income and a comfortable life style)
upper clas

Thank you Alphecca Stars.

I think even here (India) we use the same terms. But, middle class and working class are collectively called common people as the gap between the poor and middle classes is less than that between the middle and the upper class. And when it comes to welfare schemes even the middle class get subsidies in certain essential items such as cooking gas, etc.
