Can someone help correct any mistakes/refine the essay i wrote:
Survival is going through things both life threatening and non-life threating in the book ‘a little piece of ground’ it displays examples of surviving life threating situations (getting shot) and non-life threating situations( Like when Karim’s father complained about how he sold nothing but batteries.) In this essay I will discuss the finer points of survival in the displayed in the book such as: Violence and its effects, Notions of bravery and endurance, the impact of fear and Ways of dealing and facing challenges. Survival is an important aspect to the context because it makes the characters do brave things which make this book inspirational. Bravery comes when you are put under pressure or in a situation where you have to survive. Bravery causes you to do heroic things that you would never usually do. E.g.’ Leave them sidi go inside now’ shouted Hopper as the foremost tank targeted Hopper’s grandfather. His grandfather ran awkwardly ran away towards Hopper’s house. Hoppers instructive nature towards his grandfather shows how much he and his grandfather love each and it also shows that hopper is willing to put his life in danger for his grandfather. In the book there are many instances where the characters risk their lives for their friends/family. E.g. ‘Get out! Get out of your land this is our grandfather’s land, ‘Is something you put in the bomb’ said Karim Hopper was smiling wrote on a rock free Palestine, death to Israeli and sukkah on the edges’. Bravery is what makes this book inspirational because everyday people risk their lives for the people they love. Bravery is an important factor in the book that can’t be ignored. But if you are not put under circumstances where you have to survive it is very unlikely that normal people will step up and become brave.
Violence and its effects show how survival is an important factor in the context. Violence is an important contributor to survival because most of the survival in the context is caused by the violence that the Palestine Israeli conflict brought. ‘Israeli troops shelled a refugee camp in Gaza this morning, killing nine Palestinians, including a three year old child. (pg. 9) The author uses a grim tone to make the reader think that the Israeli’s are causing all the violence and suffering making every normal Israeli’s life a daily struggle for survival. There are many other incidents in the where the Israelis kill many Palestinians e.g.Israeli troops shelled a refugee camp in Gaza this morning killing nine Palestinians, including a three year old child. The repetition of these events causes the reader feel that the Israelis don’t care about Karim and the other Palestinians. Violence and its effects shows how survival is an important factor in the context we are studying because violence is what created the need to survive through the Israeli Palestinian conflict. Survival is an important factor in the context because it is what makes the book inspirational. But we must not forget that survival is not the only important concept that is important in the context.
Survival is important concept but I can’t overshadow other concepts such as love and friendship. Despite being put in a position where every day is a struggle for life. The characters still have time to love each other and maintain friendships. e.g. ’Who do you think your laughing at then. ‘said Karim preparing to be insulted. But his laugh is was so friendly that Karim didn’t feel insulted at all. Then the boy said ‘Hey you want to play a game of football? I will play with you’ The contrast in the conversation between Karim and the boy(Hopper) shows that Karim despite being put in a position where every day is struggle for survival can still make friends. Here are some more examples” Oh my daring! You’ve been caught in an explosion! Everything’s torn to bits! Are you hurt? Said Karim’s Mother after hopper planted a bomb. Love and friendship is an important concept anywhere even if your life is threatened on a daily basis. Love and friendship is and important concept in the book ‘a little piece of ground’ but compassion is everywhere.

Compassion is an important concept because it can be shown anywhere and under any condition. Compassion can be shown by anyone you don’t have to be special or rich to show compassion to others. e.g. .Inexplicably he wanted to please him. He didn’t even want to bargain any more, even though it meant giving away the best advantage he would have for a long, long time. The descriptive language of the quote shows that Karim doesn’t like bargaining and often shows compassion even if it does mean sacrificing something of value. Compassion is everywhere all around the world because even the people from the most harsh environments can show compassion.
In my opinion survival is an important factor that makes the book inspiration. But we must not forget the other factors that makes it important such as compassion and friendship that also makes the book inspirational.wrote:
