I looked up for this word in several dictionaries.

Some mentioned it as Habitual avoidance of something (like Merriam-Webster's collegiate dictionary) and some mentioned it as Intentional or Deliberate avoidance of something (like Cambridge or Longman). Which one is more common in english?

And if it is intentionally, can it be a synonymous for "abstain"?

I looked up for this word in several dictionaries.

Some mentioned it as Habitual avoidance of something (like Merriam-Webster's collegiate dictionary) and some mentioned it as Intentional or Deliberate avoidance of something (like Cambridge or Longman). Which one is more common in english? All of these seem OK.
