Erupted in cheers

As the band got on stage, the crowd went wild.

As the band got on stage, the crowd erupted in cheers.

Is the second sentence phrased correctly and naturally if I want the same meaning as the first sentence? Is "cheer" the best word to use? And if so, is "in cheers" the more natural way to phrase it?

Top answer

The band came on stage, not got. Your two sentences are fine otherwise. "Went wild" implies cheering, but there might be more to going wild than vocalization.
