Error recognition help please

Hello. Please have a look at this sentence.

The early American colonists, (A)unaccustomed (B)to hard work and (C)no leader, were uncertain (D)of what the future would bring.

I'm quite sure the answer is C but I can't really tell why it is incorrect. Could someone give me an explaination on this please? What would be the correct sentence?
