Error Identification

Reema helps poor and the sick people.

According to my book, it should be 'the poor'.
As per my knowledge, we have already used 'people' i.e. poor people, so there is no need to use 'the' before 'poor'. Please advise on this.

Reema helps THE poor and THE sick people.

To me, the error in that sentence is using the sick people there.
You could say:
Reema helps poor and sick people.
Reema helps the poor and the sick (people).

But why you have used 'people' after 'the poor' and 'the sick'. 'The poor' and 'the sick' means a class of poor people and sick people.
