Error Detection

A shiver ran to Sachin's spine when he recalled the accident in which he was luckily saved.

According to my book, 'in' should be replaced by 'from'. It says ' Use of 'in' would have been correct if it was 'in which he got his leg fractured'.

I am not getting it. Can you please cite some more examples explaining the difference?
