Historic buildings present the history, culture, as well as the lives of a country‘s citizens. They are also places that attract tourists from all over the world. Furthermore, they play important roles in national identity. Therefore, I think that cities should preserve its historic buildings.

First, historic buildings are important in preserving history and national identity. There are different architectural styles during different periods of time. Historic buildings reflect those styles and the materials that our predecessors used in construction. By studying them, researchers could understand the evolution of not only construction, but also society and culture. Understanding about the progress of evolution helps us to know better about humanity. This knowledge can be helpful to improve our lives now and our children’s later.

Additionally, historic buildings bring advantages to tourism. When visiting a country, tourists are always attracted by historic places such as museums, palaces, or buildings. They are fascinated in places different from their home country. By maintaining historic buildings, governments can attract tourists to visit their cities. Consequently, they can get a lot of benefit from tourism. For example, in Korea, tourism brings in billions of dollars annually. Governments should also invest a lot of money in developing tourism, especially in maintaining and caring for historic places.

Last but not the least, historic buildings are spiritual places. People often go to historic places for ceremonies or celebrations. They go there to give thanks to their ancestors, and wish good things for them and their children. Moreover, people are usually proud of their history. For instance, the French are proud of their Eiffel tower while Egypt is famous for its pyramids.

In conclusion, historic buildings are proofs of social and human development. They reflect evolution and the culture of a particular area. They are places of spirituality that bring people pride. Furthermore, they are good places to attract tourists. Hence, city should maintain and preserve its historic buildings.
