Erin Brockovich -- Screenplay

Hello, I'm wondering if anyone has any inside information on the role that Richard Lagravenese played in the writing of the "Erin Brockovich" script.
I had originally thought that it was all written by Susannah Grant. However,I found a shooting script of "Erin Brockovich" on the internet that names him on the title page as "revisions by". But I think he was uncredited on the official script. For example, the Academy Award nomination only lists Susannah. Why was he brought in? What exactly did he do? What was his role? How does this process usually work?

Every script goes through an army of rewriters before it hits the screen. Credits are decided by the WGA - and there are posts here (or on MWS) in the archives explaining the process. A panel reads all of the screenplays and decides who will get credit or share credit.

  • Since Grant (who writes naked - just to add some background) got 100% credit, not even sharing credit with LaGravenese, his contributions were considered minor.
  • I have no idea what he did on the script, but it was less than a third of the script.
