Erasmus Program Fall 2012/13

Dear English Forum,

I am an austrian english and lingustic student I would really like to be able to spend next fall term abroad.
I would really appreciate, if you were so kind to correct my letter and give some advice, how to improve it!

Dear Sir,

with this letter, I would like to apply for the Erasmus program for the fall term 2012/2013.
I am currently in the third semester of Linguistic and fifth semester of English Bachelor Degree program at the University of Innsbruck. I think it is important to be able to speak a foreign language for a future career and that is why I have chosen to study English as my facultative subject.

I would very much appreciate the opportunity to improve my English by spending a semester abroad. Learning a language is always “learning by doing” and I truly think it is a great possibility to be able to spend a semester abroad at a British university. I have always been interested in other cultures and other lifestyles. Once, I had the opportunity to go to South Africa for a few weeks. Not only was I able to improve my English, by talking to native speakers there, but also I was able to live in a different lifestyle and experience a different culture.

I had also the opportunity to spend three weeks in Canada with my secondary school. We stayed in Vancouver with guest families and young people at our age. I really enjoyed being able to talk to English speakers and noticing that my English was improving day by day and making new friends.

I am outgoing person. I really enjoy getting to know new people, making new friends, getting to know their way of living and also other educational systems.

Most importantly, living some time abroad on your own is certainly a good “growing” process. Having to deal with different all-day stuff, like shopping groceries, going to lectures, looking for a housing or as like is not only improving your spoken English but always your independence your self-confidence.

I am positive, that a year abroad would benefit my written and spoken English a lot. I am not a person who would waste this opportunity. I would truly love to be able to spend a semester abroad and be able to improve my English.

I think this would be a once in a lifetime opportunity and I really would appreciate to be able to seize it.

Thank you for considering my application, I am looking forward to a positive reply.

Yours sincerely
