Equal to with

1. "Women want equal status with men."
Generally we use the preposition "to" with "equal" as in "His scores are equal to mine"
Can we replace "with" with "to" in the first sentence ?

I don't know. Maybe. My dictionary just says 'often followed by to, with'.
