"epistolary ferver, amounts to a craving..."please help me..

But somehow,..., I am seized with an epistolary ferver that amounts to a craving , and I slyly sneak the first of the unanswered letters out of the basket.
please explain these phrases.

Hi Lindsay, I very much want to do something with the letters. I want it so much it's the same feeling as when I have a strong hunger for a particular type of food (a craving) so that I'm not satisified until I have it. I quietly take one from the basket, although I'm not supposed to, and I do it in a way that keeps others from noticing.
