People believe that political bodies are supposed to ensure the preservation of the environment, while individuals’ effort only have limited influence on the action, thus do not need to be counted. In my opinion, I strongly disagree with the statement above, for the fact that the mass population should as well share the duty.
The first reason is that although individuals do not own extensive resource and authority for the change of large-scale problems, the combined small actions could contribute to the raise of social awareness in regional extent. As the matter of fact, in the classroom, learning from the peers are sometimes more effective than from teachers. Regarding that, observation towards the surrounded neighborhood could be more influential than propagandas of the government. Therefore, minute practice of protecting the Earth in every household could help spread positive messages to the neighbors and maybe could change their mindset and behaviour.
Secondly, governmental laws and regulations are only effective when they are supported by the cooperation of citizens. Otherwise people could just keep on damaging the environment and breaking the rules, thinking that as long as the authorities do not find out, they are safe. By doing so, the environmental issues will constantly remain unresolved and there would be no result obtained from the campaigns, regardless of how much funding and work were poured down to them. For example, if farmers continue to burn forests for their own purposes, ignoring the given legislation, the problem of climate change will never be successfully mitigated.
In conclusion, besides the concern of the government, individuals should at the same time take responsibility to the settlement of environmental matters. Only then could the overall outcome be well-achieved.
