Entertainment extinct

Hi teachers,

And then there's the meta-theme: the fact that Toy Story itself rendered a particular brand of children's entertainment extinct.

1. In the dictionary, extinct is adject, why is it place after entertainment. Does it modify entertainment?

2. What is brand in the sentence? Could you explain the meaning of that in it?

Thank you.

I have no idea what the original sentence means, though. What type of entertainment was made extinct by Toy Story? What did it kill? I thought it showed how wonderfully old and new can co-exist in the same toy box.

Hi Grammar Geek,

The preceeding sentence:

The best Disney films have always played on the heartstrings of all ages, but Toy Story changed the script. Animated movies now have a dry Seinfeld-ian wit, more Friends than Snoopy and friends. The original Tory story - co-written by Joss Whedon in his pre-Buffy Vampire Slayer days - was constructed like a buddy movie and sprinkled wit

Oh, I see! The author is suggesting that kids' movies that are only for kids and that adults find insipid and insanely boring are now gone, replaced by movies the entire family can enjoy. (Yes, there was some editorializing there.) I completely disagree with the author's idea. G-Force, Dogs and Cats, Hop, Gnomeo and Juliet, Aliens in the Attic, Planet 51, Monsters versus Alience, etc. all prove th
