Vocabulary

Entertainers, entertainment

Hello,

Could you please say, may film actors and filmmakers be refered as entertainers?

Or an entertainer is solely a person who sings, dances, or tells jokes on the stage,

i.e. a person who entertains live in contrast to those whose actions are recorded

on tape (e.g., film actors) or those who do not directly entertain but participate in the
process of entertainment creation (e.g., film directors)? Finally, may a film be called
an entertainment?

Thanks in advance.

Film actors, I think, could certainly be called entertainers. I wouldn't necessarily use the term for filmmakers, though I suppose you could. It wouldn't sound natural to me to call a film "an entertainment".

  • Though, saying that a film is entertainment (without the indefinite article) certainly works.
