It seems completely understandable to me. Yet I know of no one that uses it regularly to mean be admitted to the unversity, except perhaps journalists or biographers of famous people. It's one of those expressions I put with matriculate.
Two days ago, we learned "get in" to mean "become accepted for membership or chosen for office" in an English class. (certainly not as clear as matriculate)
I'm always confused about the use of matriculated. Doesn't it mean "enrolled"? I hear so many people use it as though it means "graduated." But you are only matriculated while you are IN school, right?
