How do I use 'enter' and 'enter into' for these sentences:

1. The project entered a critical phase.
2. The project entered into a critical phase.

3. They entered an agreement with a company.
4. They entered into an agreement with a company.

I find both of these acceptable. If forced to choose I suppose I would say that 2. is better

1. The project entered a critical phase.
2. The project entered into a critical phase.

Only this one sounds right to my ear.

4. They entered into an agreement with a company.

Hi,

I agree about 4, but I miuch prefer #1. #2 seems too wordy.
