Vocabulary

engrave vs. carve

Hi~
I have a question about the words engrave or carve
Which one is used figuratively to mean that, like, some good memories remained in heart ? Or abuseful lesson/ a piece of advice kept in mind.
Or would you use another word for that in poems?

Oh and one thing it's not "abuseful." It's "useful."

Both are OK.
'Engrave' is more common, I think.
To me, 'carve' suggests a deeper and more painful process.
