An English Grammar book said that i read that we never use an article before the predicative nouns denoting a unique position that is a position that is normally held by one person only; as,
He was electedchairperson of the board.
Mr. Banerjee became the principal of the college.

so my question is why do we say "Dhoni is THE CAPTAIN of the Indian Cricket team." ?
Captain is also a unique position; why do we use an article before it?
