What in the world do you have in mind, Kak?  Please post a beginning list of duties yourself so that we can see what concerns you.

For children or adults?
Here is a list of general responsibilities:

design courses, setting objectives, selecting textbooks and materials
evaluate and place pupils into courses as to their level of proficiency
plan, prepare and deliver lessons
assign and check homework
assess performance (testing)
keep records (attendance, grades, performance)
help pupils improve their listening, speaking, reading and writing skills via individual and group sessions
design supplementary materials for individual reinforcement
tutor students on an individual basis as needed.
(for children) meet with parents
(older students) teach students about the structure and content of the English language, including grammar, vocabulary, spelling, and sentence structure. Assign readings from English literature (plays, novels, poetry). Teach composition (how to write essays).
