The quality of these shirts are a little worse. or These shirts are a little worse in quality. The first one has a singular subject. Use "is." The second one has a plural subject. "Are" is correct.

They work 20 more hours than us. or They work 20 hours more than us. I suppose these are okay in casual conversation. I would use "than we do" instead of "than us." Both word orders are correct.
