English skills or skill

I've always seen the phrase " Excellent English skills " or " Strong communication skills", but I don't understand why not using singular " Skill" ?

If it has be plurals, then should I say " His English skills are very good." ?

Please help me to understand the above.

many thanks,

Lisa
