English rose?

why do people call british women a "English Rose" can anyone plz explain.Is it becuz rose is the national flower of englnd or is there any other reason!! Emotion: big smile

It's partly becasue it's the national flower but only english women get callled it - not Irish, Scottish or Welsh; that'd be an offence! Think it dates back to artharian romance when English women were famed for their beauty and so were likened to the national flower; something like that anyway

I didn't know that English women were regularly called English rose, but I did notice one time when I was travelling that, despite the diversity of modern England, young people with noticeably pink cheeks seemed to be especially common in that country. This effect might have been even more pronounced historically.
