The two epic poetry showcase how heroes made various achievements while dealing with goddesses as well as mortal beings. In homer’s, the Odyssey the narrative is recounted of a shrewd warrior Odysseus, who returns home after fighting Great War. While in the epic of Gilgamesh, the warrior known as Gilgamesh faces the retribution of poor leadership and succeeds in redeeming himself. The current paper seeks to critically compare and contrast the goddesses in the epic of Gilgamesh and Odyssey.
To begin with, both epic has the two warrior's fate controlled by goddesses. Indeed, both Odysseus and Gilgamesh's fate including their successes as well as their failures were influenced by goddesses. The implication is that it was difficult to escape from the fate as prophesized. The two epics serve as the link between goddesses and mortals. For instance, Gilgamesh is born of a goddess, and he is the rule of the kingdom of Uruk. On the other hand, Odysseus provoked the wrath of goddesses due to his harsh treatment of Cyclops, the son of Poseidon. Regardless of the status of each worrier, of both epics represented goddesses to the people and offer a link between people and the gods For instance, Gilgamesh says he will“set up his name where the names of famous men are written; and where no man’s name is written he will raise a monument to the gods 12.”. Thus, the implication is that they have an impact in which they exist thereby making the two leaders very influential individuals. The two worries in bit epics ruled using different tact, those who misruled their people were punished by goddesses while those who strictly follow the wish of goddesses were made victorious. For instance, Odysseus experienced failures and difficult moments because he mistreated Cyclops. For instance, Odysseus realizes that “misery comes at last to the healthy man, the end of life is sorrow” (10).
Overall, the two epics have similarities and differences. In Odysseus, the goddesses punished him for mistreating Cyclopes. The leaders who obeyed the rules were made victorious as in the case of Gilgamesh.
