English is becoming the most prominent language

The development of tourism contributed to English becoming the most prominent language in the world. Some people think this will lead to English becoming the only language to be spoken globally. What are the advantages and disadvantages to have one language in the world?

It is predicted that English will be the only worldwide spoken language due to the growth in tourism. However wonderful this trend will possibly be, it will also be the cause of numerous troubles.

Having only one language in this world indeed includes several noticeable benefits. First of all, the language barrier would not be a difficulty to humans, especially the ones who want to study, work and travel overseas. For example, traveling addicts would be able to visit everywhere to satisfy their wanderlust without being worried about misunderstanding as they simply used their mother tongue which was English to communicate with the natives. Second of all, hot news and events could be easily informed people across the world. A speech about health of WHO, for instance, which is always considered to be urgent and crucial would become accessible to residents in every country. Therefore, they would clearly update health issues and measures to avoid them through the speech without waiting for translators to translate. Finally, politicians, presidents and anyone whose responsibility is to run a country would find it uncomplicated to improve trade links, discuss a problem and have a meeting. Hence, this would also make economy in their nations more well-developed.

Despite the plus points, minus points should be taken into consideration. One of them would be a lack of linguistic diversity. Some individuals, especially those who love languages, would feel lame when everyone around the world speak the same linguistic system like that. Another drawback would be people who are gifted at learning languages could not utilize their innate talent. Thus, using one language only would be such a waste for their potentials to become outstanding languages learners.

To summarize, were there just English, people would comfortably enjoy themselves in foreign countries, be well-informed about news and develop countries. In contrast, this trend would not advantageous to humans’ languages intelligence and linguistic variety.
