Letter Writing

English homework (letter of a foreigner in London)

This is my homework for English class (a letter of a black person arriving in London (years ago) and not being tolerated). I will really appreciate if someone reads this letter and tells me my mistakes. Thank you so much in advance :-)!!

Dearest Kadisha,

As you have asked me on my departure from India to inform you about our situation and
well-being I obliged myself to write a letter in which I will describe every
little detail. I know that you are thinking that this letter will tell you
about a world which you can compare to an excerpt from a lovely children book.
That´s what I had thought when I had decided to leave my home country to start
a new life in London! But everything is different here. Back in India we
dreamed of a relaxed life with some more leisure time. You know we have always
been wealthy but some incentives led us tot he decision of moving. Life in
London sounded easy. However, it is the exact opposite! Not finding a neat and
quaint home to live in is bad as well but not a decisive point. My husband not
getting a job as a decent doctor is what makes us unhappy, depressed and poor.
All of Will´s appliances were turned down. Unfortunately, I am not in a
position of making any new acquaintances or even friends because everybody
seems to either ignore us or to look down on us. The reason for that is obvious:
we are black and they are white. I am so desperate. Since I did not harm
anybody I do not know what to do to change people´s view on us. As you can see
we are struggling hard to integrate us into the community. Our “London Dream“bursted
away. But I won´t give up! From time to time there is still a picture emerging
in my head which depictures my family living a delightful life in London. That
encourages me to keep trying to reach my goals. While I find myself regretting
the moving I am trying hard to not let Dylan notice my grief.

Love, Monique

P.S.: Just wanted to let you know that I really appreciate our friendship. It is one oft
he most precious things I have!
