Because "and there I was thinking all about you! " follows " a place where only happy thoughts could exist" I assume that thinking about this person is not a happy thought?

This is my observation. What made you feel like standing on top of the world? It sounded like something happened, or you did, is that right?
Your sentence is grammatically fine. But I felt the last clause "...and there I was thinking all about you! " can be more connected to the main clause ( happy thoughts) . So I suggested as follows:
