English Grammar action verb

I have a question related to action verb. I was looking in the dictionary and it is listed as noun. action verb is not person, place or thing? If it is thing that how does it transfer the action? I'm having hard time understanding the transfer of action. Is it possible to draw an arrow of something showing transfer of action from subject to object? Is action word simply motion in x,y or z direction and associating with object. thanks in advance for help.
