Hi,
Can anyone please say if the sentence below is grammatically correct.

If someone told me, a couple of years ago, that I will choose to pursue a career in chemical engineering, I would ask them to check their “list of careers” again.

Especially the lass part (I WOULD ask.. doesn't sound right to me, maybe it needs to be "I would have asked them...).
