Which is correct sentence of the two given below:

One of the ways I help people is by running an orphanage or one of the way I help people is by running an orphanage.

Can anyone support their answer with grammatical rules.

This does not need a grammar rule, only logic. You cannot have "one of" something that consists of only one thing. One of the cows had a calf.
